No one thought much of it when Jessy walked into the veterinarian’s practice with a large box. The little girl probably brought her pet in for an examination. Jessy went to the reception and said she didn’t have an appointment. It was an emergency, she had found a sick animal in the woods.
The veterinarian opened the box and immediately turned pale. Jessy had no idea why, but the veterinarian ran away. She ran with the box into another room. Jessy called for her to come back, but the veterinarian wouldn’t listen.
Her whole demeanor had changed. She told Jessy that she had locked the creature in a cage and it was now safe. Jessy demanded to see the animal. After all, she had saved it. The veterinarian said she unfortunately could not go see the creature. It was too dangerous.
Shortly after, she heard sirens outside. The veterinarian had locked the room with the creature inside. Jessy felt like there was more going on than the veterinarian was letting on. Not only police officers stormed the veterinarian’s office, but environmental experts were also brought in.
After about 15 minutes, Jessy’s parents came in. Jessy refused to speak to the officers about what had happened. Meanwhile, people in hazmat suits entered the room with the creature.
They asked Jessy to tell them the whole story. She had to tell them where she had found the creature. This could be a life-threatening situation. Jessy herself also had to be examined. They were informed that a doctor would arrive soon.
Jessy said she had been an animal lover for as long as she could remember. Today wouldn’t be the first time she was on a rescue mission for an animal in need. She loved nature and often walked through the woods, and today was one of those days when she was meant to help an animal in distress.
Her parents confirmed to the police that she had indeed rescued several animals in the past and that she was a young volunteer at the local animal shelter. But today, there was something unbelievable that she found in the woods.
Jessy was determined to find the poor creature. Listening to the cries and taking cautious steps, she made her way through the forest. She thought she had lost the trail when the cries stopped.
Jessy spent a few minutes examining the huge creature to see if it had any wounds. The creature seemed fine, apart from being alone and probably scared. But what could it be? The longer she looked at it, the more uncertain Jessy became. And that wasn’t the only strange thing here.
If it wasn’t an animal and it wasn’t natural, there was only one possibility. Humans. The big question was, why would someone come into the woods and abandon a creature like this?
The spot on her hand had turned completely purple. She had definitely been either bitten or stung by the creature. Jessy initially didn’t want to tell anyone, she didn’t want anyone to worry about her.
The woman was quickly identified thanks to the search for her license plate by the police. She also had a purple rash on her body. This meant that whatever had infected Jessy and the woman was also airborne.
A team of environmental experts was sent into the woods once the driver described the spot where she had met Jessy to the police. Meanwhile, the vet, the woman, and Jessy were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Jessy had already passed out in the ambulance. The situation was becoming more serious. Her parents were not allowed to accompany her as there was a risk of disease spreading.
The search team had now reached the spot in the forest where Jessy had found the creature. What they saw there horrified them. The location where Jessy found the creature was completely dead.
They had to be extra careful to avoid getting injured. First, they had to contain the spread, which they did by forming a secure circle around the site.
Samples had to be taken so they could be taken to the lab for further testing. A brave police officer volunteered to collect the sample and drive it to the lab all alone.
The officer was quickly escorted to the lab by several vehicles. All roads in the area were closed, and there was a great team effort to ensure everything moved forward as quickly as possible.
He was brought in by the doctors in protective suits. He was taken to an examination room and had to give a blood sample immediately. The colleagues quickly started analyzing the sample.
Now, all they could do was pray and hope that the researchers would find an answer quickly. Additional experts from a disaster and epidemic control agency arrived at the animal clinic and hospital.
There was no other option but to incinerate the creature. They could not take any risks. There was no safe way to transport the creature, so they had to kill and burn it.
The researchers determined that the creature was not native to this country. It had likely been smuggled by plane from another country. Most likely by a group specializing in exotic animals.
After waiting for a while, they received a call from the health department of another country. They had identified the creature. They had recently experienced an outbreak in their country as well.
A team was sent back to the forest to burn everything on-site. They also burned the clothing of the people who had come into contact with the creature.
Unknowingly, Jessy had “rescued” a dangerous, disease-transmitting insect that could severely damage the environment and make many people sick. In its home country, plants and animals were immune to the creature’s venom.
Several research departments began collaborating to help Jessy and the others. News outlets also picked up on it to raise awareness of what was happening.
The situation was escalating by the minute, much more than anyone had ever expected, and several hospitals were overwhelmed by a large number of emergency calls.
The creature was euthanized and incinerated right in the animal clinic room where it had been confined. The disaster response team found that the creature had laid eggs.
A nationwide hotline was set up for anyone to provide tips. They received a lot of them. People even went outside in groups to search for these insects.
After hours of uncertainty, it seemed that the threat was contained. There were no new reports of sightings or injuries. Doctors and experts were still searching for a cure.
By stroke of luck, it appeared that Jessy’s parents were immune. Health department experts took blood samples and were able to amplify the antibodies in the lab.
She asked what was going on and where the creature she had rescued in the forest was. The doctors told her the whole story and explained how lucky she had been.
In fact, Jessy had saved the entire county. She had found the creature before it could scatter its eggs throughout the forest. Imagine if the creature had roamed freely for a few more days.
The person was part of a larger group, and all members were arrested for endangering public safety. The police considered expanding the charges to include the use of biological weapons.
The president told Jessy he was proud of a girl like her and that more people should be inspired by her. She was honored by the president and even received a medal.
